Annotated Bibliography

Books to read:

Christensen, C.M., Horn, M.B., & Johnson, C. W. (2016). Disrupting class: How disruptive innovation will change the way the world learns (2nd ed.). McGraw Hill.

  • Horn and Christensen’s groundbreaking strategies for revolutionizing the education system and introducing blended learning within a student-centric classroom setting.

Harapnuik, D., Thibodeaux, T., & Cummings, C. (2018). Choice, Ownership, and Voice through Authentic Learning. Creative Commons License.

  • This book provides a detailed explanation of what the concepts of choice, ownership, and voice in authentic learning (COVA) are and how they are shaped within significant learning environments (CSLE). The book also explores the substantial benefits of integrating COVA and CSLE into an educational setting.

Pink, D. H. (2009). Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us. Riverhead Books.

  • This book challenges the notion that our primary motivation comes from monetary rewards or the “carrot and stick” approach, which often proves to be counterproductive. According to Daniel Pink, true motivation stems from taking control of our lives through creativity and learning.

Blended learning and teaching practices books I have read:

Horn, M. B., Staker, H., & Christensen, C. M. (2015). Blended: using disruptive innovation to improve schools. Jossey-Bass.

  • This book provides a hands-on roadmap for creating and putting into action blended learning strategies in your organization. Furthermore, it effectively explains the concept of blended learning by offering a wealth of resources, including case studies and videos.

Dweck, C. (2016). Mindset: The new psychology of success. Ballantine Books.

  • One of my favorites so far! Delving into Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset framework and how it applies to various aspects of life, education, and relationships, this book offers a profound insight into the significance of adopting a “yet” perspective that can positively impact how you perceive your abilities.
